Helping Students Grow
CRISTIANO RIBEIRO DA COSTA
Owner and Head instructor
Cristiano Ribeiro da Costa was born in Manaus, Brazil on February 22, 1979. He started training Judo at the age of six and began his Jiu Jitsu journey at the age of 15. Cristiano showed promise early in his career, when he achieved two Brazilian National Champion gold medals as a blue belt against talented competitors from the biggest Jiu Jitsu academies in Brazil. Royler Gracie recognized Cristiano's potential early and asked Cristiano to join Gracie Humaita in 1997. In the first year with Gracie Humaita, Cristiano won the 1997 World Championship as a purple belt. As a first year brown belt, Cristiano won a silver medal in both 1998 and 1999 and was one of the youngest Royler Gracie students to promote to black belt at the age of 19. As a black belt, Cristiano has achieved 200 gold medals across 13 different State tournaments. He has two professional Vale Tudo and nine MMA fights.
Cristiano was recently promoted to 5th degree black belt by Carlos Gracie Jr. and is a black belt in Judo. He is the most decorated and experienced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner in Wisconsin and one of two fighters to compete and win at the highest levels of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the midwest.
Gracie Barra Madison is the culmination of his experience, knowledge, and his dream as a child to one day open his own school in the U.S. His style, attitude, and the culture he is actively building in Madison reflects Gracie Barra's value, "Jiu Jitsu for Everyone."
EVANDRO CAMPELO JR.
Evandro Campelo Jr. is from Manaus, Brazil and started training at the age of eight. Campelo received his black belt from Master Royler Gracie and his second degree from Professor Cristiano Ribeiro Da Costa. Evandro started Jiu Jitsu with the Gracie family at a very young age and competed at the highest levels for Team Humaita under Royler Gracie. Campelo is a two time Brazilian National silver medalist (blue belt) and multiple time Manaus State Champion (purple, brown, and black). He reached the quarter final round at Worlds multiple times as a black belt and has fought the toughest guys in his division such as the legend Cobrinha. Prior to joining our team, Campelo worked as a physical therapist. Campelo is eager to fight again, now at the Masters level, and to share his decades of experience in Jiu Jitsu with the communities in Dane County.
Finally, a level of instruction you could only find in the big cities has arrived in Madison.
